Ask a person where he lives and he will spontaneously tell about his neighbourhood or town. A house is just a house. It is the people, the street and the neighbourhood that make it a home. And we build people-sized neighbourhoods, with housing and stores, restaurants, cafes and parks. A neighbourhood has to be alive. That is why we believe in the power of dynamic and welcoming neighbourhoods with a strong sense of community and a strong connection to the city.
Every month on Nieuw Zuid we organise De Lettermarkt, a cosy book market where people can also have a drink and a bite to eat. We also collaborate there with Circuit, a circular experience centre, and organise activities with and for residents, such as an Easter egg hunt or a Scheldt cleanup campaign.
To meet the growing demand for quality family housing in the city, we are building duplex penthouses in the Slachthuissite: three-bedroom, two-story houses with a roof garden/terrace, but on the top floors of an apartment building.
At the Slachthuissite, we are in full conversation with urban farmers and are temporarily making the former slaughterhouses available to artist collective Rooftoptiger.
At Nieuw Zuid, we built a running track on the roof of the HÅVN building and a walking path through the site. Collective roof gardens offer residents additional space and gathering places.
Before, during and after each city development, we organise several rounds of discussions with local residents. For the Slachthuissite, we took the demand for more green space in the neighbourhood to heart and redrew the original plans to a version with more park and public areas.
